JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Campus Safety & Security is responsible for the overall security of the School campus, students, faculty, staff and visitors. The position reports to the Chief Financial &Operating Officer and will collaborate with Operations leadership, Senior Leadership Team staff and other employees in overseeing all aspects of campus security operations for our indoor and outdoor locations including the development and implementation of security policies, procedures, and programs. This position will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for MICDS students, faculty, staff, and visitors while balancing an open and welcoming atmosphere with high expectations for safety and security.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Security Strategy and Planning:

Conduct regular security assessments and risk analyses to identify potential vulnerabilities and areas for improvement.
Develop and implement comprehensive security strategies and plans to safeguard the campus, students, and staff and reduce risk.

Security Operations Management:

Evaluate optimal safety and security measures utilizing technology solutions, staffing, and outsourcing.
Oversee the deployment of security personnel and resources to patrol and monitor campus grounds, buildings, and facilities to serve as a visible presence for response and outreach to our community.
Ensure adequate staffing levels, training, and coverage to maintain security and respond to emergencies effectively.
Supervise and coordinate the activities of the campus security team, including security officers and support staff.
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations including OSHA and the appropriate storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials and chemicals with applicable departments.
Manage administration and oversight including but not limited to budgeting, reporting, outsourcing, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating.

Emergency Response and Crisis Management:

Develop and maintain emergency response plans and protocols for various scenarios, including natural disasters, medical emergencies, and security threats.
Coordinate with local law enforcement, emergency services, and other relevant agencies to respond to emergencies and manage crisis situations.
Conduct training exercises and drills to prepare campus personnel for emergency situations and ensure effective response and coordination.
Lead Safety Committee meetings with Student Support Services personnel and other campus representatives to address areas of opportunity.
Plan and execute a communication strategy for campus constituents including best practice outreach programs, educational communications, training, and customer surveys.

Event Management

Lead the development and implementation of traffic, parking management and crowd control plans for major campus events in collaboration with other MICDS staff and departments as appropriate.
Work closely with local and school officials to provide fire safety, emergency medical services and security for major school events.
Augment security staff with law enforcement agencies and off-duty police officers as required by specific events.
Manage campus access-control system, and ensure appropriate changes are made to accommodate off-hours events.

Security Technology and Infrastructure:

Evaluate, implement, and manage security infrastructure and technology solutions, such as access control systems, surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and emergency communication systems.
Maintain and test security equipment and infrastructure to ensure reliability and functionality.
Stay informed of advancements in security technology and recommend upgrades or enhancements as needed.

Community Engagement and Education:

Foster positive relationships with students, parents, faculty, and staff to promote a culture of safety and security on campus.
Provide security awareness training and educational programs to campus stakeholders to enhance their understanding of security policies, procedures, and best practices.
Serve as a resource and point of contact for security-related concerns and inquiries from the campus community.
Maintain a working relationship and act as liaison between MICDS and local emergency services organizations.

Additional Responsibilities:

Must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities of those under your supervision.
Perform other duties as apparent or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, security management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
5+ years of managerial experience in campus security, law enforcement, or a related field
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish respect, credibility, and trust while maintaining productive working relationships at all levels of the school.
Demonstrated experience working in successful team development and management, as well as in the implementation of new programs and approaches.
Ability to navigate challenging situations with the utmost professional demeanor.
Knowledge of security best practices, principles, and techniques, particularly in a school or educational environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite, security technology systems and software, and the ability to gain proficiency in Veracross and other systems.

OTHER INFORMATION

A criminal history and background check is required and must be successfully completed prior to employment.
Physically able to operate a motor vehicle.
May work in varied extreme outside weather conditions.
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
May require walking and sitting to a significant degree.
Regularly sit, talk, hear, and visually intercept visitors.
Regularly use close and distance vision.
