The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital

The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital is seeking applicants for the role of Manager of Marketing & Editorial.

The individual in this new role, which reports to the Director of Strategic Communications & Brand, will expand awareness of the Foundation’s impact and craft compelling stories about what our donors make possible. This role blends management of a growing area within the Foundation, as well as hands-on marketing and content work.

This is an exciting time at the Foundation — a leading organization in fostering a healthier region through philanthropy — as we embark on a new strategic planning process and new brand marketing efforts. The selected candidate will join an integrated Communications & Marketing team that collaborates with colleagues across the organization, and BJC HealthCare, to help our generous donors enrich lives, save lives, and transform health care through charitable gifts.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute marketing initiatives that raise awareness of the Foundation’s impact and brand
  • Manage and edit Foundation publications, including our Giving magazine and news and features on our website
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify and create compelling new content across media
  • Partner with the Foundation’s Senior Digital Strategy & Operations Lead on editorial aspects of the Foundation’s website and e-newsletters
  • Create content for, manage, and grow the Foundation’s social media presence
  • Manage contract writers, vendor relationships, and any future direct reports
  • Manage marketing and editorial budgets
  • Sustain productive relationships with marketing peers within our partner organizations
  • Contribute to brand and message development initiatives
  • Support brand governance for the organization, including our look, voice, and tone across materials
  • Measure, track, and analyze results to inform effective decision-making

During any given week, you might be:

  • Leading the editorial development of a Foundation publication or video
  • Crafting and leading a new marketing initiative to raise awareness of the Foundation
  • Commissioning, editing, or writing a donor feature or news story for our website
  • Supporting the development and implementation of a brand marketing or advertising campaign
  • Collaborating with colleagues on a multimedia project
  • Collaborating with our events team to amplify awareness of an upcoming Foundation event
  • Connecting with a fundraising colleague on shaping a patient story or physician-scientist story
  • Editing a new case for support used by our fundraising colleagues
  • Writing, posting, and monitoring social media content
  • Partnering with BJC marketing or media relations peers on publicizing a Foundation story
  • Reviewing and managing the creative work of an agency partner

Qualifications:

A list of qualifications is included in BJC’s posting for this role. In addition to bringing hands-on experience across the marketing and content spectrums — from publications management and writing/editing to crafting attention-getting marketing initiatives — competitive candidates will have:

  • Passion for nonprofit marketing and publishing
  • Experience with, and appreciation for, the intersection of editorial content and marketing, including video
  • Experience managing the work of a designer and agency partner
  • Experience cultivating desired media coverage
  • A sharp eye for compelling design, photography, and illustration
  • Experience contributing to and working within a brand system
  • Experience creating and managing a budget
  • Experience with or interest in healthcare marketing and communications
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excitement about advancing the Foundation’s life-changing mission
