Who We Are
Kindness Begins with Me is a refugee support nonprofit in Saint Louis that works to build a thriving community with refugee families. Services are focused on Middle Eastern refugee women who often cannot access resources due to childcare and transportation barriers. Our core programs are women’s socials, English classes, and driver’s permit classes / driving practice. We are looking for someone to manage our volunteer base who thrives on connecting with people and facilitating meaningful experiences.

Position Summary
As Volunteer Coordinator at Kindness Begins with Me, you can combine a high-impact role with work schedule flexibility and family-friendly work conditions. You will play a pivotal role in mobilizing our community and maximizing the impact of our volunteer efforts. You will be responsible for recruiting, training, and managing volunteers to support our programs and initiatives. You will work closely with our team to identify volunteer needs, develop strategies for engagement, and ensure a positive experience for all volunteers involved.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as point of contact for volunteer questions and concerns specifically regarding training, policies, and volunteer resources
  • Point person for introductory program tours for potential volunteers, including scheduling and conducting tours or finding other staff / volunteers to do so
  • Manages onboarding and training materials for new volunteers
  • Leads volunteer recruitment efforts, including, but not limited to:
    • Presenting to religious congregations
    • Establishing and maintaining new relationships with universities and other organizations for ongoing recruiting
    • Conducting volunteer drives or other recruitment initiatives among current volunteer base
  • Leads Volunteer Retention efforts, including by:
    • Planning and hosting volunteer retention events
    • Developing and implementing a volunteer recognition system, developing tracking methods for volunteer recruitment and retention
  • Establish and manage a gas mileage reimbursement system (for volunteer drivers).

  • Work experience in managing, recruiting, and retaining volunteers
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Comfort with public speaking and giving presentations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to motivate and encourage others
