Full-Time, Salary Range: $75,000 – $85,000

About Us: The Kirkwood School District Foundation (KSDF) is a 501(c)(3) not-for- profit organization founded in 1989. Our mission is to build a stronger community in Kirkwood, MO, by raising private funds to enrich the educational experiences for all students in the Kirkwood School District (KSD). The Foundation is led by an Executive Committee and volunteer Board of Directors, and currently holds more than $4M in assets that support District-wide initiatives and signature programs at all learning levels from pre-K through 12th grade. These programs include:

  • A Named Awards scholarship program
  • Annual School Grants for unrestricted support available to all KSD schools
  • Enrichment Grants Program for use for classrooms, clubs or activities.
  • Sponsorship Program for local businesses
  • Pay it Forward for KSD faculty and staff contributions
  • At least two annual, in-person fundraising events

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly organized individual with a passion for public education to lead our organization as the first full-time Executive Director.  The ideal candidate is self-motivated, persistent and goal oriented with an ability to work both independently and as a team leader while managing organizational projects, complex donor relationships and fundraising activities. This full-time position reports to the Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities: The Executive Director has the following key responsibilities:

  • Work with the Kirkwood School District to identify areas of need and with the KSDF Board of Directors to develop a strategic long-term vision for the foundation.
  • Oversee the successful execution of all KSDF programs and events, including the annual KSDF Chili Bowl and spring gala/auction.
  • Manage donor database and acknowledge all donations, gifts, and other contributions.
  • Increase revenue by cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting current and prospective individual, corporate and foundation donors; partner with the Directors and other volunteers to raise additional funds for the Walker Natatorium endowment.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Foundation and the Kirkwood School District to enhance alumni relationships and engagement activities, and expand partnerships with other non-profit organizations with the Kirkwood School District (such as PTO’s).
  • Coordinate web-based content and production of print and electronic communications, including annual fund solicitations and stewardship, campaign case statements, planned giving materials, etc.
  • Attend all Board and Executive Committee Meetings, assist the KSDF Secretary in preparation of meeting agendas, and provide regular updates to the Board of Directors regarding the Foundation’s operations and performance.
  • Promote participation of volunteers for all KSDF programs and events, and assist in identifying potential new Board Members.
  • Maintain the Foundation’s official records and documents, assist the Finance Committee in preparation of annual budget, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations by maintaining sound financial practices.
  • Manage part-time Office Administrator staff position.

Qualifications: These are the qualifications for the ideal candidate:

  • An undergraduate degree is required.
  • At least 3-5 years of nonprofit experience in a managerial capacity, with leadership roles in nonprofit management, including collaborating with a Board of Directors, implementing strategy, overseeing financial and legal administration, program oversight, and managing staff.
  • A proven track record of raising funds and donor relationships, with experience in the successful execution of special events.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong attention to detail and follow-through; organizational and time management skills; strategic thinking; and the ability complete projects in a timely manner with a small staff and volunteers.
  • Must have experience working with donor database systems; experience with Bloomerang and QuickBooks a plus.

Salary and Benefits: This full-time position offers a salary of $75,000 – $85,000. Full- time employees receive 10 days PTO (prorated first calendar year), and all KSD calendar holidays (except for summer break).
