Organizational Summary

The Community Impact Network (“Network”) is a private operating foundation that builds equity by serving those who create opportunities for people in the 24:1 community to learn, live, and leave a legacy. The 24:1 community includes the people who live in the municipalities and sections of unincorporated north St. Louis County that make up the Normandy Schools Collaborative school district.

The Network has about seventy-five member organizations who collectively serve the 24:1 community in the Network’s three priority areas: (1) Network members create opportunities for people to access quality education throughout their life (“Learning”); (2) Network members create opportunities for people to be safe and healthy, get a job, move through the housing continuum (“Living”); and (3) Network members create opportunities for people to leave a positive legacy for future generations (“Legacy”).

The Network’s staff serve in three main ways: (1) by listening to community stakeholders to inform how the Network does its work and to identify community needs, goals, and dreams (“Engaging”); (2) by working with service providers to address community needs, improve services, craft solutions to challenges, align around shared objectives, and build connections between community members and those who serve them (“Collaborating”); and (3) providing a suite of supportive services, including financial, strategic, and organizational resources, to service providers working in the Network’s priority areas (“Investing”).

The Network has an annual budget of about $15 million and roughly 15 full-time employees.

Position Summary

The Community Impact Network eagerly seeks a vibrant and seasoned professional to join our team as the Senior Staff Accountant.

This pivotal role will directly report to the Chief Financial Officer while closely collaborating with the Chief Executive Officer. The Senior Accountant position advances the mission of the Community Impact Network by providing accounting and finance support to its internal stakeholders. The Senior Accountant will significantly support the daily finance operations including functional responsibilities for all the general ledger activities, contractual compliance, and grant monitoring and reporting. The Senior Accountant will assist in ensuring that appropriate systems and procedures are established and maintained to support effective program implementation. Responsibilities include participating in month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, accounts payables, accounts receivables, fixed assets, and other assigned projects. This role is responsible for ensuring that all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems comply with appropriate U.S. GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.

Organizational Leadership

·        Keep the Chief Financial Officer apprised of daily operations and communicate any problems or issues in a timely manner with proposed solutions.

·        Oversee and ensure the efficient operation of the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Fixed Asset functions, including but not limited to, making strategic recommendations for ongoing improvements, implementing tactical processes, enforcing policies, and monitoring internal controls.

·        Ensure appropriate approvals are obtained for invoices and accurately entered into the accounting system with proper cost allocations.

·        Monitor and assist with the accurate processing of accounts receivable payments and adjustments as needed including collection of delinquent balances.

·        Update daily cash.

·        Generate bank, ACH, and investment statements/reports.

·        Prepare monthly journal entries and perform other accounting functions related to month end closing.

o   Record depreciation.

o   Record monthly billing.

o   Post prepaids and reconcile accounts.

·        Cross train with the Staff Accountant to provide back-up support.

·        Assist in preparation of the monthly financial statements.

·        Assist in preparation of the annual operating budgets, funded member grant budgets, and other miscellaneous projects.

·        Perform bank account and general ledger account reconciliations and analyses.

·        Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate U.S. GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.

·        Review financial accounts and detail activity.

·        Assist Chief Financial Officer in the review of departmental budget to actual variance analyses.

·        Maintain current written desk top procedures for all core responsibilities, including but not limited to, accounts payable processing, accounts receivable processing, recording journal entries, general ledger account reconciliations, accounting closing procedures, generating monthly financial statements, grant reporting, etc.

·        Monitor and maintain appropriate internal controls.

·        Ensure all intercompany transactions are booked consistently, timely and balanced.

·        Assist with the IRS 990 tax return, including preparation of client prepared schedules, reconciliations, and other required information.

·        When required, process payroll timely and accurately.

·        Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.

Required Experience and Skills

·        Bachelors’ Degree from an accredited university with an emphasis in Accounting.

·        5-8 years of progressive accounting experience required.

·        Nonprofit and/or nonprofit foundation experience preferred.

·        Proficient with Microsoft Excel including V lookups, pivot tables

·        Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Microsoft 365, and other web-based applications.

·        Excellent oral and written communication skills.

·        Ability to develop oneself through continuous learning, initiative, innovation, resourcefulness, and critical thinking.

·        Ability to prioritize, effectively manage multiple projects concurrently, and take ownership of work.

·        Ability to meet tight deadlines, work extended hours during accounting close, audit periods and other critical times.

·        Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.

·        Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

·        Ability to maintain confidentiality of company information.

·        Must be meticulous, but able to maintain a balanced perspective in rapidly changing business circumstances.

·        Must be able to pass criminal background check.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, in-office position in a standard office environment. The office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Flexibility in working hours is available, but regular office hours are generally preferred. Some periods may require more intensive work hours due to project timelines or events.

Physical Demands

This position requires the use of computers, phones, and personal conversations. The constant use of eyes and hands will be required in all environments where work is performed. The incumbent may stand, walk, reach, stoop, climb, lift, carry, and bend occasionally when performing essential job functions in the office and at other locations. These activities may include walking through various locations and at activities, operation of common office equipment such as photocopiers, fax machine, mailboxes, or scanner.
