Major Gifts Officer

Position Summary:

This position reports to the Director of Development and serves on the Development team. As our Major Gifts Officer, you will be responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with existing major gift prospects, as well as identifying new prospects. An ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate our organization’s mission is key. You’ll be expected to energize team members, persuade prospects, and persevere to attain outstanding results.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Managing and cultivating relationships with our major gifts prospects
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit new donors
  • Help our donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with our organization
  • Secure major gifts at the $10,000+ level with the goal of raising $200,000 annually
  • Manage portfolio of 100+ donors and prospects
  • Work with the development department to align efforts and set goals
  • Create and implement a moves management plan
  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the board and other staff with their solicitation (e.g., provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications)
  • Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition
  • Track and report progress using specific metrics defined by the Director of Development and the CDO
  • Attend and support Council events where appropriate
  • Assist with other development team initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned and as a member of the Development Team

Desired Qualifications:

·         Education – Bachelors Required

·         Experience – Minimum 5 years of major gifts/development

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·         Strong interpersonal skills

·         Ability to travel when required

·         Proficient in Microsoft Office Products and Raiser’s Edge a plus

·         Computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel and PowerPoint); experience with Raiser’s Edge donor software or similar fundraising software a plus.

·         Excellent organization and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects.

·         Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

·         Willingness to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
