Position Description: Nine PBS is grateful for our passionate group of volunteers – all of which are very proud to support our activities and many of whom are our valued donors. The Volunteer Coordinator will attract, inspire, train and deploy volunteers for projects across the organization. This individual will encourage teamwork among the volunteers, as well as between the volunteers and Nine PBS staff, with a focus on providing the support and guidance needed to ensure the volunteers receive a high quality, enriching experience through their relationship with Nine PBS at all times. The Volunteer Coordinator will ensure all volunteer activities meet the needs of the organization and will work especially close with our Special Events team, Individual Giving team and our Community Impact team.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, flexible, personable, people-centered, patient and able to work with a multigenerational and diverse group of individuals who are seeking different purposes and goals through their volunteer time. This position will report to the Director of Communications within our Marketing team.

Primary Responsibilities: The following primary responsibilities are vital to successfully meeting the expectations of this position in an effective and efficient manner. This is not an exhaustive list, and areas of focus may fluctuate between the primary and secondary responsibilities, as needed.

·         Responsible for all volunteer program components, including but not limited to: recruitment, training, celebrations, relationship management, and stewardship.

·         Provide volunteers to fill requests from staff, as needed, including supporting special events, our community impact work, the front desk, etc.

·         Develop close, positive relationships with our volunteers through in person meetings, trainings, events, phone calls, and celebrations.

·         Ensure all volunteers are enthusiastic champions for Nine PBS and identify ways to engage them that deepen their relationships with the organization.

·         Serve as the point of contact for volunteers during events and ensure volunteer behavior is professional and always represents Nine PBS in a positive way.

·         Work closely with the Events Manager to identify which volunteers are best suited to support key events.

·         Identify ways to engage and deepen the relationships volunteers have with Nine PBS to advance them along the individual giving continuum.

·         Solicit and track volunteer feedback to continue creating a positive volunteer experience.

·         Engage and recruit a younger demographic of volunteers through targeted outreach.

·         Write, update and circulate the volunteer job descriptions across the organization, including requirements and qualifications.

Secondary Responsibilities: These are additional activities that are expected to be performed with this position.

·         Maintain ongoing relationships with volunteers about Nine PBS to keep them informed and engaged.

·         Respond to volunteer applications and perform screenings/background checks.

·         Secure and support a volunteer team lead to serve as the volunteer point of contact if the Volunteer Coordinator is not on-site.

·         Respond to all communication and requests in a timely fashion.

·         Coordinate details of station tours, including scheduling and coordinating staff/volunteer tour guides.

Qualifications: Associate’s degree or higher preferred, with at least 3 years of volunteer experience/management required. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. An understanding of volunteer management software or database management/experience (and its app version) is preferred.

Hybrid Schedule: This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule, but on-site work is expected on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as during events and other key volunteer activities. Evening/weekend hours are required at times.
