The Coalition for Pet Progress

The Coalition for Pet Progress seeks a dynamic part-time Executive Director to steer our organization towards growth and oversee the fulfillment of our primary mission: making our region more humane for pets, and the people who care for them.

This pivotal role combines administrative and executive-level duties, providing the opportunity for comprehensive leadership within our organization. You will have autonomy to devise and execute growth strategies in line with the overarching goals established by our Board of Directors. As the Executive Director, you will oversee fundraising initiatives, budget management, and drive financial advancement. Working in close partnership with the Board, you will translate strategic objectives into tangible results, nurture stakeholder relationships, and play a hands-on role in our marketing campaigns and community-wide endeavors.

You will also provide leadership to The Coalition for Pet Progress, an alliance comprising 37 animal welfare organizations in our region. Your focus will be on cultivating and empowering our members to enhance collaboration and synergy, thereby amplifying our collective efforts to tackle community-wide challenges. Effective communication and empowering team dynamics will be your key tools in achieving these objectives.

Preferred qualifications:
●      Strategic Planning experience
●      Event management experience
●      Familiarity with animal welfare on a national and local level

This is a part-time (24 hours per week) position with a starting salary of $35,000 – $40,000, depending on qualifications and experience. We are prioritizing candidates who demonstrate a long-term interest and commitment to strengthening and growing our organization. Depending on fundraising and future needs of the organization, this position could become full-time in the future.

Required skills:

Responsibilities:
Leadership
·      Articulate our vision, mission, statement of need, unique value proposition, and overall strategy and direction of the organization.
·      Build alignment across our organization, including members, volunteers, donors, the board and other community stakeholders.
·      Be an industry thought leader and stay on top of the trends and developments in our sector.
·      Maintain an attitude of enthusiasm and optimism, exuding hope and a bold vision.
·      Navigate or avoid dysfunctional conflict (personal and emotional) while embracing functional conflict (professional and healthy disagreement about strategy and direction). Actively interrupt groupthink and mission creep.

Fundraising
·      Ensure the strategic vision of the Coalition for Pet Progress is clear to internal and external stakeholders.
·      Develop and execute an actionable fundraising plan, in collaboration with the board.

Administration
·      Ensure proper resources are in place and being utilized for fundraising, collaboration, document creation, communication and recordkeeping.

Program Management
·      Work with stakeholders to develop and execute a mix of programs and activities that achieve our organization’s mission and strategic outcomes.

Community Relations and Communications
·      Develop and maintain strong relationships in our sector and region with peers, donors, industry associations, the media, and more.
·      Build alliances and strategic partnerships. Be collaborative and transparent with other organizations.
·      Communicate regularly with stakeholders and the public, including an annual report, emails, newsletters and/or social media.

Board Development
·      Work in partnership with, and for, the board. Assist the board in their operations, administration, planning, and information dissemination.
·      Help build, sustain, and strengthen all board functions, like meetings and committee work. Work to build alignment while also maintaining role clarity (division of labor between the board/chair/Executive Director).

Compliance and Best Practices
·      Ensure adherence to all relevant laws and regulations.
·      Elevate our organization’s standards to meet and exceed industry and regional benchmarks.
