Habitat for Neighborhood Business, established 18 years ago as a 501 (c) (3) organization, recognizes the challenges posed by the migration of businesses and services away from many urban neighborhoods and has developed a time-tested program designed to support entrepreneurship in these neighborhoods, helping them to thrive again.

Habitat for Neighborhood Business is dedicated to primarily assisting colleges and universities in revitalizing underserved neighborhoods with new and additional business activity, job growth, and developing additional role models by helping entrepreneurs in these under-resourced neighborhoods realize their dream of starting, owning, and operating a business.

Position Overview:

Habitat for Neighborhood Business is seeking an Executive Director with a strong entrepreneurial spirit who can accelerate the organization’s growth and impact. Since its founding, HNB has operated in close connection with St. Louis University’s Chaifetz School of Business (SLU). HNB is looking for an individual who will build on the strong foundation established over the years, driving future organizational growth. HNB is in discussions with several colleges and universities to establish new “affiliates” and simultaneously developing a virtual program to broaden our impact in new markets and support a wider array of entrepreneurs. The individual in this new position will play an instrumental role in our expansion plans. This position is fully funded within our existing budget as evidenced in our strong balance sheet. Primary Responsibilities:

Operations – responsible for ongoing operations. Provide input and lead in the design and management of HNB operations.
Affiliates – Collaborate with HNB team members in identifying and onboarding new affiliates. Maintain working relationships with current and future affiliate staff and programs. Collect and maintain data on best practices and share ideas across affiliates
Financial – oversee the financial management of the organization including QuickBooks, AP/AR and board defined check writing authority.
Program Expansion – maintain strong connections with “significant” stakeholders to ensure HNB’s leadership remains effectively connected. Identify and establish relationships with organizations, partners, and entities able to provide products, services or information of use to affiliates and their entrepreneurs.
Fundraising – elevate and expand HNB’s fundraising efforts to include private and corporate contributions and grant proposals; (Collaboration with SLU will be important)
Virtual Program – assist third party firm, as requested, with the development of the new HNB Virtual Program.
Administrative support includes preparation and distribution of meeting announcements, Board Meeting minutes and action items.
Board Support – Maintain regular contact with board members; assist members willing to actively participate in areas of expertise. Over-see board membership, status of terms and participate in recruiting new members.

Qualifications: Consideration will be given for experience or demonstration of capabilities in the following areas:

Demonstrated success being self-motivated and ability to perform with minimal direct oversight
Strong and persuasive written and verbal communication skills; public speaking and meeting participation and leadership will frequently be necessary.
Marketing, fundraising and/or public relations experience with ability to engage and work effectively in collaboration with other organizations and a diverse group of people.
Entrepreneurial experiences, including operating or managing a business or non-profit, experience training/facilitating, and/or consulting experience with a preference for medium or small entities.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
