Job Summary:
Mt. Zion United Methodist Church is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Director of Family Ministries. The purpose of this position is to help children and youth Birth-12th Grade develop in faith in Jesus through relationships, programming, and equipping their families.
Key Responsibilities:
● Event Planning: Create and promote events with activities that foster a strong sense of community and inclusiveness.
● Volunteer Recruitment & Coordination: Develop strong relationships with volunteers through recruitment, training, scheduling, and effective communication.
● Nursery: Provide oversight to Nursery staff
● Worship: Prepare and deliver at least 1 Children’s Message per month in Worship
● Children’s Ministry (Pre-K to 5th grade)
○ Plan and implement all aspects of the weekly Sunday School Program including lesson planning, curriculum adaptation, and teaching
○ Vacation Bible School (VBS) – Assist in the development and implementation of an annual weekend long Vacation Bible School
● Youth Ministry (6th -12th Grade)
○ Plan and implement at least 1 monthly Youth Ministry Gathering
● Ensure all Children’s/Family Ministries Program activities adhere to church policies and procedures, including maintaining a safe environment and conducting background checks for volunteers.
● Ensure all lesson plans and curriculum are age-appropriate and aligned with United Methodist teachings and values.
● Manage the budget for Children/Youth/Family Ministries Programs, ensuring effective use of resources and materials.
Experience, Education and Skills:
● Must be a committed Christian seeking to deepen and share their faith
● Must have a passion for working with children, youth, and their families
● Experience working with children in a ministry or other context
● Strong organization and leadership skills
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
● Ability to work collaboratively with church staff, volunteers and families
● Creativity in developing engaging and meaningful programs for young people and their families
● Ability to be proactive, adapt and resolve problems effectively
● Must complete Safe Gatherings Certification, including a criminal background check
