Ronald McDonald House Charities of St. Louis is a seeking an experienced Vice President of Development to lead our fundraising efforts and expand our resource base to meet our annual budget of $7 million. This senior leadership role is critical to advancing our mission of supporting families. The ideal candidate will be a relationship builder with a proven track record of successful fundraising who can articulate our vision and inspire support from diverse stakeholders. This position is part of a mission-focused team of professionals providing compassion and hospitality to families with seriously ill children.

This position is responsible for development, fundraising, data and communications strategies and operations of RMHC. It also encompasses a strong focus on obtaining growth in Planned Giving and Major Gifts for Annual Giving and Capital Campaign by building and nurturing relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and community partners.

This position serves as a member of the executive leadership team participating in and collaborating in organizational decision-making and planning. The Vice President of Development leads and mentors a team of development professionals, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position directly supervises staff positions: Data Manager, Development Manager, Event Manager, and Marketing and Communications Manager.

Basic qualifications   

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5 years’ leadership experience in all aspects of development, fundraising and communications in the not-for-profit sector
  • Excellent leadership abilities, including experience managing and developing teams
  • Proven success in securing major gifts, including planning, cultivation and solicitation
  • Ability to maintain a comprehensive, integrated development and communications program
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze all development efforts and develop appropriate strategies to address challenges, expand successes and improve results
  • Knowledge of and experience with Fundraising and Planned Giving software
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Empathetic listener and communicator
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to inspire and motivate others
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload
  • CFRE preferred

Responsibilities include:

  • Directs the planning, organization and implementation of:
    • Annual Giving ($3.2 million)
    • Events ($1.4 million)
    • Grants ($100,000)
    • McDonald’s Partnership ($2.5 million)
    • Major Donors
    • Planned Giving
  • Creates and implements major and planned gift programs to ensure on-going cultivation and solicitation activities. Must annually maintain a Moves Management Portfolio of 75-100 “unknown” Cornerstone Society Members and prospective Cornerstone Society Members, personally managing relationships with high-level donors and prospects.
  • Oversees an annual communications plan to enhance organizational image, promote the mission and programs and encourage community support
  • Directs and oversees RMHC donor database integrity and analysis
  • Works collaboratively with any consultants for professional assessments, planned giving projects, feasibility studies and capital campaign
  • Program Leadership & Management:
    • Knowledge Management
    • Manages assigned annual budgets
    • Works with assigned board members and committees

Physical Demands
Must be able to concentrate and remain focused while handling multiple tasks, responsibilities, and projects. Must be able to perform bending, twisting, stooping, reaching, and lifting of moderate to heavy weight material up to 25 lbs. Must be able to frequently climb stairs, including up to 5 flights, and frequently walk distances up to approximately 80 yards. Must be able to travel between RMH locations as needed.

Salary: starting at $140,000 annually
