National Council of the US, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Inc. (c/o ROI Search Partners)

The National Director of Marketing and Communications manages national membership and external communications on behalf of the National Council of the United States, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Inc. The Director oversees marketing strategy, marketing plan execution, and all communications in support of the strategic and annual plans as directed by the Chief Advancement Officer.

We are a national organization comprised of more than 4,000 Councils and Conferences throughout the United States. The National Director of Marketing and Communications is the national brand champion, elevating our voice while advocating for our mission-centric membership, fundraising and advocacy. He/She analyzes national activities, marketing and communications for their impact on the Society’s national brand identity and is also adept at crisis communications across multiple organizational and governance levels. The incumbent supervises the Digital Communications Manager and oversees key communications and marketing projects executed by outside vendors.

Strategic Marketing & Communications Responsibilities:
– Developing a comprehensive and cohesive marketing and communications strategy, including developing and managing a marketing and communications budget. Responsible for developing an Annual Marketing/Communication Plan for the National Council.
– Fulfilling the marketing and communication goals as determined by the National President, the CEO, and the Chief Advancement Officer.
– Managing relationships with public relations and marketing vendors, including strategy, planning, and execution.
– Working with the Advancement Team to ensure brand standards in all fundraising communications, including appeal letters, emails, prayer cards, and any supplementary materials as needed.
– Projecting a positive public image, nationally championing our brand identity and promise, including marketing and communications assistance to local Councils.
– Producing new engaging video content in support of our brand and various outreach efforts, including script writing, graphics, booking a production team, communicating with participants, and video editing.
– Planning and executing a yearly outreach and fundraising strategy in support of Giving Tuesday.
– Planning and directing national marketing efforts in support of Councils for the recruitment of new SVdP Conferences and members, with additional emphasis on Vincentian diversity and the recruitment of youth and young adults.
– Reaching out to Councils in search of compelling stories and photos to help share our brand with our larger audience.
– Ensuring excellence in all national marketing and communications materials on all platforms.

Operational & Production Responsibilities:
– Leadership and development of a skilled communications team.
– Cultivating a collegial, collaborative, and productive team culture throughout the staff and membership.
– Overseeing content and design for our public-facing website and other digital media platforms.
– Advise national board committees, staff, CEO and officers regarding marketing and communications issues and activities.
– Support and guide Councils on marketing branding, marketing strategy and other activities to provide a cohesive SVdP look, feel and approach.
– Managing SVdP’s presence on fundraising platforms like Charity Navigator, BBB Wise Giving, and others.
– Producing national communications (e.g., Annual Report, special reports, infographics, marketing collateral, etc.) and managing email and other communications lists.
– Assisting national leadership in the writing and editing of publications material, external communications, speeches and correspondence.
– Supporting the Board of Directors and staff with various communications needs, by providing writing, layout, and copy editing/proofreading for bios, business cards, membership materials, and other requests.
– Supporting outreach efforts at events where SVdP is a national sponsor, including CSMG, SEEK, and others, by researching, designing, and producing swag, creating marketing materials, assisting with presentation needs, and creating and sending follow-up marketing emails.
– Ensuring quality control of all information released.
– Providing member support at Midyear and Annual Meetings.
– Other assignments as determined by supervisor.

Crisis & Risk Management Responsibilities:
– Maintaining an awareness of organizational risks and threats.
– Manage and support public and media relationships.
– Working with senior leadership and external vendors to direct and manage crisis communications at multiple organizational levels.
– Support and guide Councils on crisis communications and media relations issues.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Requirements:
– College degree in Marketing, Journalism, Communications or related fields.
– 5+ years of relevant national experience for a non-profit organization or business association.
– Supervisory experience of staff and volunteers.
– Digital media experience; awareness of and proficiency with current technics, analytics and technologies required.
– Proficiency in Adobe Creative software, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Canva and Adobe Express.
– Experience in stakeholder/community engagement and as a board liaison.
– Clear and concise communication with team members and senior management.
– Personal values consistent with Catholic Social Teaching are critical.
– Ability to travel nationally as required.
– English required, Spanish fluency a plus.
– This position will be located in Maryland Heights, MO (St. Louis) at the national SVdP offices.

Scope/Complexity:
– Represent and promote the Society through various written and visual media.
– Assist SVdP membership with marketing and communications issues.
– Assist Board and staff with specific projects and provide information to facilitate workflow.

Accountability:
– Support the Rule, Mission and By-Laws of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
– Adhere to organization policies, procedures, and all pertinent legal regulations.
– Prepare and accomplishes annual performance and program objectives.
– Participate in annual self-evaluation and performance review.
