Job Summary:
Following Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, we know that only when our refugee families’ physiological and safety needs are met, they are able to pursue love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. Our families are frequently navigating immigration status concerns, internalized fears of helpers and providers, language barrier limitations, and/or difficulties with identifying culturally sensitive providers to assist with their basic needs.
Welcome Neighbor STL has an opening for a Case Worker to advocate for, collect basic information from newly-arrived refugees in the St. Louis area, and assist in the provision of wrap-around services in hopes of providing integrated and whole-family system support for refugees.
Welcome Neighbor STL currently serves primarily low-income Afghan and Syrian families and is looking for an individual who will connect them with resources available as they begin to build their new lives in the United States. Our passionate team is looking for a dynamic individual with a passion for helping refugees.
Key Responsibilities:
Work alongside Family Partner Coordinators to support refugee families in the St. Louis area.
Complete home visits for newly arrived refugees to assess their needs.
Coordinate with interpretation services to provide appropriate language access
Take refugee individuals to Social Services offices to set them up for government benefits such as SNAP, Medicaid, WIC Program, TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), the Feeding America Food Program, and other applicable benefits.
Assist individuals in getting their Social Security Cards.
Connect refugees with available resources
Outreach: Conduct targeted outreach in the Arabic, Pashto, Dari communities to identify potential clients and connect them with available services
Case Management: Complete assessments, develop service plans, and coordinate services with local providers
Care Coordination: Review benefits checklists, discuss client needs, complete necessary applications for obtaining services
Provide the Executive Director with timely data records, case notes, and paperwork pertaining to services
Qualifications:
Desire to help the community
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or other relevant programs / or lived experience in the area of Refugee Resettlement
Reliable vehicle and driver’s license
Willingness to complete home visits independently.
Willingness to visit the homes of persons who live in more at-risk communities in St Louis city.
Willingness to transport refugee family members, if needed, to appointments.
Willingness to complete all necessary initial and subsequent training as required for the performance of job duties
The applicant will be trained minimally on Medicare, Medicaid, and the utilization of agency’s electronic health record system
Willingness to submit to state, local, and federal background and work authorization screenings.
Independent time management skills; The position has flexible hours and applicant will be responsible for setting and maintaining much of their own schedule
Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and take direction
High comfort level with electronic communication and technology
Commitment to confidentiality and the core values of Welcome Neighbor STL at all times
Enjoyment of fast-paced working environments with an enthusiastic team
Successful completion of background check
Familiarity with using Google Drive applications (ex. Sheets, docs, calendar)
Ability to use technology for virtual communication, data tracking, and reporting.
Multilingual abilities (Arabic, Dari, Pashto) are a plus.
Preferred
Direct case management experience with refugee or immigrant populations.

Frequent Travel: Requires local travel to meet clients in their homes, shelters, or community centers around the St. Louis area. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Walking and Standing: May involve walking through neighborhoods, housing units, or community sites, as well as prolonged periods of standing during home visits, outreach events, or client meetings.
Carrying and Lifting: Occasionally lifting or carrying items such as client files, outreach materials, donated goods (e.g., household items, clothing), or office supplies, typically weighing up to 20 pounds.
Bending and Stooping: Frequent bending, crouching, or stooping to assist clients with limited mobility or when delivering supplies or setting up for events.
Office Work: Extended periods of sitting while performing computer-based tasks, completing documentation, writing case notes, or conducting phone calls and virtual meetings.
Emotional and Mental Demands: The role may also involve emotional resilience to manage challenging and potentially traumatic situations when working with refugees who may have experienced significant hardships
