Food Outreach

Agency Summary: Food Outreach is the only St. Louis area organization and non-profit whose mission is to provide nutritional support to enhance the quality of life of men, women, and children living with HIV or cancer. Food Outreach provides a combination of nutritionally supportive services through Medically Tailored Meals and groceries, Medical Nutrition Therapy, and nutrition education.

Primary Purpose:  The Development Manager – Volunteers and Events, is a member of the agency’s development team working to advance the mission of Food Outreach through volunteer engagement, community partnerships, and fundraising initiatives. This position manages all aspects of the agency’s volunteer program, supports strategic fundraising initiatives, and oversees logistical components of primary, third-party, and community outreach events to ensure maximum donor participation.

Volunteer Management Functions: (50%)

  • Serves as a primary point of contact for individuals and groups new to Food Outreach, providing education on the agency’s mission, services, volunteer opportunities, and partnership pathways.
  • Serves as the primary administrator over the agency’s online volunteer system (VolunteerHub).
  • Manages volunteer recruitment, scheduling, documentation, and retention efforts.
  • Responsible for volunteer scheduling, training, and coverage of the following: Nutrition Center, cook and packs, kitchen assistance, home delivery packs, office needs, special events, and any other agency needs as applicable.
  • Stewards and maintains an open line of communication with all lead volunteers (red aprons and red shirts).
  • Develops and cultivates relationships with corporate and community partners to deepen engagement beyond volunteerism, including sponsorships, team volunteer opportunities, and other collaborative initiatives.
  • Obtains and manages volunteers for special events.
  • Maintains and updates volunteer records as needed.
  • Provides education to ensure volunteers understand HIPAA compliance/client confidentiality.
  • Participates in community outreach efforts such as volunteer fairs.
  • Qualifies/disqualifies court-ordered community service volunteers.
  • Maintains documentation for corporate grant programs related to employee volunteerism.
  • Plans volunteer appreciation events, individual recognition touchpoints, and annual meetings.
  • Manages volunteer stewardship expenses located within the annual development budget.

Event Management Functions (50%)

  • Maintains a high level of familiarity with the development team’s goals and objectives.
  • Meets all deadlines for event timelines.
  • Coordinates planning, implementation, and follow-up for all events.
  • Organizes and implements A Tasteful Affair, the agency’s largest annual fundraiser, grossing approximately $400K annually.
  • Acts in the following roles including, but not limited to:
  1. Event Day Manager – Oversee all event day logistics including proper venue layout and run of show.
  2. Vendor Contracts – Manage contracts for venue, audio/visual, auctioneer, entertainment, culinary teams and décor partner. Ensure deposits and other payments, as described in contracts, are submitted by due dates.
  3. Culinary –Cultivates relationships and serves as primary liaison between Food Outreach and culinary partners for all event logistics, promotional opportunities, and individual needs.
  4. Silent and Live Auction – Manages silent auction solicitation process.
  5. Volunteers – Ensures proper volunteer staffing.
  • Supports and manages peer-to-peer and community-led fundraising efforts, providing guidance, resources, and stewardship for fundraising campaigns on behalf of Food Outreach.
  • Evaluates mission alignment and participation in all third-party and community relations events.

Position Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in a nonprofit organization.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability serve as an ambassador for the organization within the community.
  • Sincere commitment to working collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, clients, donors program participants, and other supporters.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively represent the organization to volunteers, donors, corporate partners, and community members.
  • Detail oriented with a proven track record in managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of VolunteerHub, or equivalent volunteer management systems, is preferred.
  • Sensitivity to the feelings of others, respect for individual differences, mature understanding of social problems, and an ability to establish relationships quickly.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Position Time Schedule: This is a full-time and in-person position governed by personnel policies related to full-time staff. Candidates will periodically need to work on weekends and evenings related to Saturday Cook & Packs and fundraising events.

Line of Authority: This person is supervised and evaluated by the Director of Development.

Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Director of Development and is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the work of our volunteer team.

Salary Range: $51,000-55,000
