Lutheran Hour Ministries

Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM), a trusted global leader in Christ-centered media outreach, seeks a mission-driven, strategic, and visionary Global Chief Financial Officer (Global CFO) to provide executive leadership over the organization’s global financial strategy and operations.

Reporting directly to the Global CEO and serving as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Global CFO partners closely with ministry and board leadership to steward resources with excellence, integrity, and accountability in service to LHM’s global mission. This role ensures that financial strategy, systems, and practices enable sustainable growth, maximize ministry impact, and align with LHM’s worldwide evangelistic calling.

The Global CFO provides oversight of global financial operations across multiple countries, currencies, and funding sources, ensuring fiscal responsibility, regulatory compliance, and strong internal controls while advancing organizational effectiveness and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Financial Planning:

  1. Develop and implement LHM’s global financial strategy in partnership with the Global CEO, Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and ministry leaders.
  2. Advise the CEO, ELT, and Board of Directors on financial implications of strategic initiatives, ministry expansion, and organizational priorities.
  3. Lead long-range financial planning, including annual budgets and multi-year forecasts aligned with ministry objectives.
  4. Provide enterprise-wide financial analysis, forecasting, and trend reporting to support informed decision-making.
  5. Ensure consistent understanding and application of LHM financial standards, policies, and best practices across global subsidiaries and ministry centers.
  6. Serve as President of the LHM Foundation, as appointed and at the will of the Global CEO.
  7. Support and engage with the International LLL/LHM Budget & Finance Committee and Audit Committee.

Financial Management & Reporting

  1. Oversee all global financial, accounting, and reporting functions.
  2. Build, develop, and lead a high-performing, mission-oriented Finance team committed to excellence and stewardship.
  3. Ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting in compliance with U.S. GAAP and organizational requirements.
  4. Provide regular financial reporting and analysis to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
  5. Maintain and continuously strengthen internal controls, financial systems, and processes to safeguard organizational assets.

Compliance & Risk Management

  1. Foster a ministry-wide culture of compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, and organizational financial requirements.
  2. Oversee organizational financial audits and manage relationships with external audit partners.
  3. Lead resolution of audit findings and ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively.
  4. Coordinate with regional presidents and global ministry teams on international financial audits, as required.
  5. Oversee insurance and contract management to protect organizational assets.
  6. Partner with the Global Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and Audit Committee on enterprise risk management initiatives.
    Treasury & Cash Management
  7. Oversee global cash flow, reserves, and investments to ensure liquidity and long-term sustainability.
  8. Monitor international financial regulations and economic conditions, implementing best practices to mitigate risk.
  9. Ensure proper tracking, allocation, and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds, grants, and donor-designated resources.
  10. Build and maintain strong relationships with banking, lending, and investment partners.

Professional Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  2. CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional certification preferred.
  3. Minimum of 10 years of senior-level financial leadership experience; nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
  4. Demonstrated experience managing budgets exceeding $20 million across multiple funding sources.
  5. Proven experience overseeing financial operations in multi-national organizations.
  6. Strong strategic, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  7. Working knowledge of international and/or nonprofit accounting standards.
  8. Exceptional leadership, communication, and team development skills.
  9. Experience with ERP and financial systems, particularly Sage Intacct and Salesforce, preferred.
