Development Manager
Who We are Looking For:
We are looking for a Development Manager who is passionate about reproductive justice and abortion access, building relationships, and creating a high quality donor experience. The emphasis of this role is on cultivation, stewardship, and operations. This will be the first development position hired for our organization.
The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm for helping to build and sustain relationships with donors, and enjoys working collaboratively with coworkers and supporters of diverse backgrounds and experiences. The person in this role must be able to hold confidential information and effectively manage our donor CRM, with a focus on data hygiene. In this role, you will be a critical part of a small team that works across departments to ensure we can fund as many Missourians’ abortions as possible. You will manage the day to day operations of fundraising efforts, specifically donor stewardship and database management.
This position is ideal for someone who is detail oriented, a self starter, and someone who enjoys making systems run smoothly.
Required Qualifications
- Dedication to the mission of Missouri Abortion Fund and abortion access without limits
- 4+ years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit development
- Experience managing donor databases and creating reports, specifically with Bloomerang online giving platform
- Proficiency with Google Apps including Gmail and Google Drive, and comfort learning new online software platforms
Strong relationship-building and communication skills (written and verbal) - Event planning and project management experience
- Ability to travel statewide 1 – 4 times per year for events or donor meetings
- Enthusiasm for Project Management and systems
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively
- High level of emotional intelligence, compassion, sense of humor and fun, and capacity for giving and receiving feedback
- Clear communication
- Flexibility – current events and the legislative landscape means we often have to pivot and adjust – this is an important piece of our work
- Demonstrated commitment to racial, economic, and reproductive justice
- Cultural awareness and humility, and the ability to build positive relationships with diverse people
- Prior remote/distributed work experience strongly preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Donor Relations & Stewardship
- Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors
- Develop and implement stewardship strategies to ensure donors are informed about the impact of giving and feel valued
- Coordinate donor acknowledgment letters and proper record keeping for each gift
- Manage and schedule regular stewardship calls
- Plan and execute donor appreciation events and recognition activities
- Analyze donor data to inform strategy development and goal achievement
- Maintain accurate and timely records of donor communications and interactions
- Manage a donor maintenance pool focusing on stewarding and engaging individual donors to ensure high donor retention
Fundraising & Development
- Collaborate with leadership to design and execute annual fundraising plans and campaigns
- Track internal progress toward fundraising goals and provide regular reports from the donor database to leadership and the board
- Oversee and interact with donor database (CRM), ensuring accurate record-keeping, segmentation, and reporting. Ensure data hygiene across the CRM
- Support the cultivation of major donors and prospects through research, proposals, and meeting preparation
- Organize and import data from third-party platforms
Communications & Events
- Work closely with the Community Engagement Director and Executive Director on all external communications for donors and supporters
- Support the planning and execution of donor stewardship events
- Coordinate event logistics, RSVPs, and follow-ups for events as needed
- Work with the Executive Director to implement strategies for fundraising
- Generate new ideas that increase revenue and donor loyalty
- Maintain effective, positive, and professional communication with colleagues, clients, and donors
- Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues

Additional Details:
This role is hybrid, with both in-person and remote hours. This role will be required to meet in person 3 days per week in the city of St. Louis. Missouri Abortion Fund will provide QSEHRA (Qualified Small Employer Health Reimbursement Arrangement) reimbursement and contribute to employee’s HSA, PTO, paid sick-time, and flexible work hours are also provided. The majority of our work takes place during the hours of 10:00 am to 6:00 pm CT, but there may be instances where evening or weekend hours are needed in support of events or urgent initiatives.
