Missouri Health Care for All

Missouri Health Care for All, a non-partisan, faith and community-based grassroots movement committed to securing access to affordable, high-quality health care for all Missourians is seeking two Campaign Organizers.

These Campaign Organizer positions will be full-time, temporary positions, lasting from early April 2020 through November 25, 2020.

Locations: We are seeking a Campaign Organizer in St. Louis. The St. Louis Campaign Organizer will work from our office in Benton Park (South St. Louis City). There will be frequent regional travel and periodic statewide travel (1 trip per month, average). Some trips will require an overnight stay.

About the Organization: Missouri Health Care for All was founded on the principle that every Missourian should have access to quality affordable health care.  We work with faith communities, community groups, service providers, people who need health care, and grassroots supporters statewide to advocate for these principles. We work to defend current health care programs and funding and to advance policies that improve access to care. We are actively working to become an anti-racist organization.

About the Job: The Campaign Organizers will work with Missouri Health Care for All’s Organizing Team to add capacity to our 2020 organizing priorities, especially the end of the 2020 legislative session, the campaign to expand Medicaid through a ballot initiative, and limited work to support health care candidates in the 2020 election. We are looking for a flexible, detail-oriented, passionate and personable candidate to strengthen the work of our organization during a critically important year. The Campaign Organizers should expect to work substantial evening and weekend hours. Our organizational culture and policies allow staff to compensate for evening and weekend hours by taking time off during weekday hours.

MHCFA is committed to helping our staff with professional development. We are eager to help our temporary organizers position themselves for permanent positions at the end of their time with MHCFA.

Reporting & Staffing Structure: Both Campaign Organizers will report directly to Missouri Health Care for All’s Organizing Director, who is based in St. Louis, Missouri. In addition, both Organizers may receive task instruction from full-time organizers, especially in Kansas City and St. Louis. Other staff are based in Joplin, Springfield, Festus, and Jefferson City, Missouri.

Major Responsibilities:

·         Recruit new individual supporters through outreach events and other activities.

·         Mobilize MHCFA supporters to participate in advocacy tactics, with a focus on calling supporters and asking them to volunteer.

·         Help execute advocacy tactics. Tactics may include petition signature-gathering, visibility events, canvassing, phone banking, and more.

·         Partner with staff organizers to identify and build leadership capacity among active volunteers.

·         Assist with statewide Story Collection Project by identifying Missourians with personal stories.

·         Conduct educational presentations on health care issues.

·         Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experiences:

·         Passion for Missouri Health Care for All’s mission of quality, affordable health care for all people

·         Strong grounding in values and ethics and an ability to connect values to health care

·         Strong ability or eagerness to learn to analyze social power and identify structural oppression and privilege

·         Connections to and relationships within the local community

·         Experience in volunteerism, grassroots organizing or campaigns (paid, volunteer, or internship), or other demonstrated commitment to the values of Missouri Health Care for All

·         The ability to connect with a diverse array of community members

·         Ability to clearly explain issues and activities through verbal and written communications

·         Comfort making a lot of phone calls

·         Ability to mobilize others to action

·         Commitment to anti-racist work, and enthusiasm about participating in organizational efforts to become an anti-racist organization.

·         Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software programs

·         Reliable transportation and driver’s license

Salary and Benefits:

Base salary of $39,140 per year, or approximately $1,500 every two weeks. Benefits include generous health, dental and vision insurance; generous vacation and sick leave; paid holidays. Intangible benefits include great coworkers, a growing and thriving organization, an opportunity to make a difference, and an opportunity to gain skills and experience to help you land your next job.

Please note: MHCFA will be entering into collective bargaining negotiations soon. The compensation and benefits package is subject to change through those negotiations; however, it is our intention that the package will not get less generous than it currently is.
