Organization Background:

The St. Louis Aquarium Foundation is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit partner to the St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station. Our mission is to engage the community through providing access and education programs and serving as the region’s recognized voice for water stewardship. The education, volunteers, conservation and fundraising programs are managed through the Aquarium Foundation.

Position Summary:

Working in partnership with the Executive Director, this position will be responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with current donors and prospects and managing fundraising programs. We are looking for someone who has solid communication skills, enjoys meeting new people and introducing them to our organization, and works positively and persuasively with the staff, volunteers and donors. As we are a fairly new organization, this position will help create a more formalized donor program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

·     Display an outstanding work ethic and passion for your work and for the mission of the St. Louis Aquarium and the Aquarium Foundation

·     Use moves management to track donor communications and solicitations

·     Oversee the fundraising for the annual gala and other events as determined

·     Oversee the Global Waters Circle and Aquarium Friends Circle annual membership program ($250+ annual gifts), to include planning stewardship events, donor communications, direct mail, thank you calls, member tours, etc.

·     Write proposals, business letters, annual fund appeals, event collateral and work with designer to create brochures, invitations, collateral for fundraising programs

·     Work closely and collaboratively with other departments and the St. Louis Aquarium team to determine opportunities for donor stewardship and cultivation

·     Use the fundraising software program to track donations and moves management (Donor Perfect)

·     Write articles/donor features for the Foundation’s e-newsletter and social media

·     Assist the Executive Director in other projects as requested

Education & Experience Requirements:

·     Bachelor’s degree

·     Minimum of two years of experience in the nonprofit field and direct fundraising

·     Experience coordinating multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

Critical Skills/Competencies:

·     Proficiency in a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint), and experience using a fundraising database preferred

·     Detail-oriented, and strong writing, presentation and communication skills

·     Ability to be patient, adapt and maintain flexibility in changing environments

·     Help maintain a positive work environment and work cooperatively and collaboratively within a team

Working Conditions and Requirements of the Job:

·     This job requires occasional periods of standing and walking, sometimes outdoors; lifting objects; as well as periods of sitting and working on a computer.

·     This job requires the ability to work effectively, comfortably and respectfully with all ages and a variety of backgrounds, races and nationalities.

·     This job may include additional weekend days/events, and evenings.
