Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to work 12 months a year in a full-time position in the Business Office supporting functional and academic departments at the School. This position provides expertise in the areas of accounts payable, gift accounting, and investment accounting through the processing of financial transactions with sound internal controls and fiscal accountability. This is a key role providing strategic and tactical support to the Director of Finance. Interaction with and guidance to students, parents and school volunteers is an essential part of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the Accounts Payable function including processing and reviewing invoices to ensure proper approval and general ledger coding for budget management and prevention of duplicate payments and preparation of annual 1099 reporting.
  • Complete monthly reconciliation of donor database and general ledger to ensure accurate and consistent reporting of all donations and associated restrictions.
  • Complete monthly recording of transactions related to investment accounts to ensure accurate reporting of changes in the value of investments, trades, realized and unrealized gain and losses and other related transactions.
  • Prepare and record general journal entries in adherence with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Review, develop and recommend business process and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls and service.
  • Provide assistance to employees, parents and students by answering questions and responding to requests.
  • Assist the Director of Finance in carrying out the goals and objectives of the Business Office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or finance
  • 5+ years professional accounting experience with experience in an educational or other non-profit setting preferred
  • Knowledge of accounting software (e.g. Great Plains Dynamic or similar system)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products including Excel and Word
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, multi-task and manage a varied workload
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal  and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and computer skills
  • Strong focus on continual process improvement
